Improving My Skill In Writing Essays

In the duration of a whole semester of writing research essays, I must say my writing skill really got better. Measuring our own skill in writing essays may sound like a nut job among others; perhaps, it is only for the tutors to do that, right?

No, I don’t buy it. To get an accurate picture of our skill’s improvement it is essential that we keep stock of our tutor’s comments and our own observations, too. In fact, if we find that these two benchmarks are parallel, then we can be more certain about our improvement, even our lack thereof.

So, hop on and consider checking, not just how to improve writing skill, but also how to assess the improvement:

i.The Flow. To see how I’m doing with my writing, I tend to review my “writing flow.” This flow is actually just the flow by which thoughts and words come. In my observations, I noticed that a single sheet gets easily filled after doing research, and forming some of my own theories or assumptions.

Regardless of varying speed, what remains constant is the fact that with good research and own inputs, that ideal writing flow can be achieved.

ii. The Relevance. The skill in writing essays should naturally include establishing relevance. For a dubious student like me, evaluating my written work as relevant is not easy. The only way I could be certain is by comparing my work with the given essay metrics.

However, because I’m adamant about learning how to judge its relevance through my own efforts, I had resorted to reading it aloud. By reading aloud, I could tell if something is amiss, or if logic doesn’t follow.

Most of all, I have considered it important to plough through its relevance from a chosen perspective only. For instance, while my finished essay is relevant to me as a student, it may not come as much relevant for an expert.

iii. The Errors. With constant practise, I have observed that my grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors have grown less. Errors are a big deal because in a tutor’s perspective, it may costs serious points.

Counting on these benchmarks, I confidently claim that my skill in writing essays is a whole lot better, and that I have remarkably improved.
